Looking Back & Moving Forward

AN UPDATE ON LIFE, COMMUNITY, AND REAL ESTATE IN NOSARA

COVID in Nosara, Costa Rica.

LOOKING BACK

Over the past few months, people around the globe have experienced a complete shift in nearly all aspects of their lives. COVID-19 has changed the way we socialize, carry out business relations, experience our surroundings, and so much more. COVID-19 has affected all parts of the world in unique ways, both for better and for worse. Most of all, it has given us time to reflect on the things that are most important to us. We wanted to take this opportunity to update our friends and family on how the global pandemic has affected all aspects of Nosara; the day to day life, the community, and of course the Nosara real estate market.

QUARANTINE LIFE IN NOSARA

First off, Nosara has truly been a unique and special place to quarantine. Most of us consider ourselves very fortunate that we get to be in this town during this time. COVID-19 started to directly impact Costa Rica around the same time that Green Season came about. Although people were urged to stay home, the scenery wasn't all that bad. The abundance of blooming trees, refreshing rains, and our surroundings teeming with wildlife made quarantining a little less dismal. The beeches were closed but the jungle was open. Surfing came to a halt, therefore people took to the trails.

The NCA Nature Trails provided solace like none other. People were discovering our intricate trail system which connects our community from K-Section into Nosara Town. Driving restrictions prohibited the majority of travel by car, therefore biking took off and one of our town’s most exciting attributes showed its worth. With the beaches back open and travel restrictions lifted, the people of our community are returning to their daily lives with a greater-than-ever appreciation for the place they call home.

HOW OUR COMMUNITY HAS RESPONDED

During the early months of the pandemic, much like the rest of the world, we witnessed businesses being forced to close their doors, forcing many people out of work entirely. Financial pressure was being felt by everyone, no matter your industry or trade. Many people witnessed what little they had, quickly dissipate before their eyes. This is where Nosara shined. Nosara has always been a community that is there for each other during hard times. Whether it be severe flooding or a global pandemic, we work together.

The Nosara Food Bank is always at the front line when it comes to assisting those who need it the most. The NFB worked closely with the Nosara Covid-19 Emergency Fund to help people who had recently been put out of work. Beginning with the April 2020 monthly distribution they fed 2,467 people. In May the Nosara Food Bank provided food packages to 2,872 individuals, and in June, 2,504. During the first three months of closed borders, the NFB raised and provided over $120,000 in aid to help those in need. We also witnessed many local businesses working together to help assist. The amount of compassion that Nosara always displays is truly heartwarming. This time has proven to be more inspiring than ever. People are still feeling the effects and this is far from over. HOW THE NOSARA REAL ESTATE MARKET HAS BEEN AFFECTED

Due to the majority of air borders being closed before November 1st, real estate transactions naturally slowed down during that time. However, the types of buyers we welcomed depicted a promising future for Nosara. We experienced a healthy transition to more clients that were looking to call Nosara their forever home. A strong community base coupled with an international private school made Nosara the perfect place for families of all ages to grow together. Many people who arrived shortly before borders closed decided to stay in Nosara and ride out the pandemic. This lead to an increase in long term residents and buyers. This transition will help to create a healthier and more sustainable market as we move into the future.

In regards to the overall market demand since the borders have opened up, the interest in Nosara is stronger than ever. We have seen the worldwide real estate market experienced a major shift during the past months. People are looking to move out of urban city centers, and into areas that provide a healthier setting and lesser populated surroundings. Nosara has positioned itself to be the perfect candidate for people looking for the ultimate transition.

MOVING FORWARD

With nearly all vacation rental homes booked up now through the holidays, and into early 2021, the season is in full swing and looking very positive. We have once again welcomed tourism back into Nosara, for what we hope to be a healthy and productive year ahead. The tourism sector has implemented many measures to ensure the health and safety of residents and visitors. Here at Wanderlust, we are more excited than ever to meet newcomers to the Nosara area, and share our experiences from the past year. The coming few months will no doubt be different, but one thing we can say without a doubt is that we are happy to be spending it here in Nosara.

Sincerely,

Nathan Jackson & The Wanderlust Team
