+ Owner’s Story

This is a special place filled with wonderful energy. There is no other way to describe it. From listening to the birds and monkey alarm clock and watching the sunrise, through the day of treetop views to a long sunset vista, this home has been my retreat and peaceful place. We have had family gatherings, healing retreats, large dinner parties and wine tastings as well as wonderful quiet days of peace. As open and spacious as this house is you can have multiple conversations going at once in the huge livingroom/dining room without overlapping on each other. Though large it is also quite comfortable for one or two enjoying togetherness as well as privacy.

The 360 degree deck with deep overhanging roof gives us shade and protection from the rain. Some favorite memories are of watching epic thunder and lightening storms roll down the valley to the ocean all while sitting in a rocking chair on the deck safe from the rain. That is just one part of this amazing design, dinner on the deck for 20 people, watching ships and fishing boats cruise by, green flashes at sunset, misty mornings of fog creating an entirely different landscape, the southern cross mid summer nights and on and on.

This is an old school but truly amazing tropical home. The screened ceiling level ventilation means there is always a breeze with no need for more than fans to keep us comfortable. As the beach toasts in the afternoon sun we are relaxing on the deck with a breeze and a cold drink.

I loved renewing this home when we moved in. Adding display shelves for my growing collection of pottery, bedroom shelves and storage, a new exterior were the fun things along with bringing along maintenance updates. My old creaky knees required an elevator designed, installed and maintained by a great local guy that now knows this whole house in and out. Those same creaky knees and now grand children are sending me back north but a huge part of my heart will always be on this hill top. That troop of monkeys will keep passing by and the hummingbirds will still swarm but it is time for someone else to love this place like we have.
